BIG BANK THEORY.
Govt of India have cleared on Wednesday (that is, yesterday), SBI's acquisition of five subsidiary banks. State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, SB Hyderabad, SB Travancore, SB Mysore, SB Patiala will merge with SBI.
After the merger, (the exact date of merger not yet known), SBI will have an asset base of 37 lakh crore rupees, 22,500 branches, 58,000 ATMs and 50 crore customers.
I am proud to be one of those 50 cr customers and Vijaya is one more customer of SBI. I joined SBI at Kanchanbagh (Chandrayangutta branch) Hyderabad during 1st week of March 1974. Later, at the Kilpauk branch, Chennai since Oct 2001. I am a customer of SBI for over 43 years and Vijaya for over 28 years. We both are happy and proud of OUR bank SBI.
From a 4-digit account number to the present 12-digit number, from Demand drafts to the present UPIs / IMPS / NEFT, from a non-standardised piece of Cheques and withdrawal slips and serpentine queues to the globally-standardised beautiful cheques, 24x7 ATMS, and Mobile banking on the finger tips, Net banking, and many more ... we have been the witnesses of the marvelous progress this Sector has seen all through these 45 years.
Truly, a global-size bank, Arundhati Bhattacharya (61) is the chairperson of this behemoth of a bank.
