Today is the 10th Day after KVS Athimber passed away on 20 Nov. Read
This morning we - self, Vijaya, and Arvind - started from our house by 7-30 for Central Stn and Ambattur. As many roads in Chennai were water-logged due to the recent rains, we went by local train. Sugavanam reached a little later (the same train route).
The 10th day rites of KVS Athimber started by 9-45 AM. Each one of us offered saatham to KVS Athimber and it was Padma akka who offered it last, with tears in her eyes. Then Rajeswari and Srividya kept bakshanams and Palaharams over the rice. The rites were completed in an hour. Prakash, Rajeswari and Srividya went to immerse the "Pindam". Those who were in the house took bath.
After Prakash returned, Padma akka took bath and I gave the sari that all of us brothers purchased for her. Then Prakash gave a sari and finally Pasupati gave a sari. Padma akka wore the sari that we brothers gave her.
Then we ate. Caterer_mami brought the food. Mangalam and Sudhan arrived that time. They came by bus via a circuitous route. We three, Sugavanam, Mangalam, Sudhan were from GRS side, Padma's family (the children didn't come from Bangalore), and Athimber's Maruman (sister's son) and his wife were the attendees. Rajeswari's parents had come and left earlier. We six left Ambattur by 2-45 PM by local train.
Thus, the 10th Day rites were performed by Prakash.
Tuesday, 02 Dec 2008 - Grekkiam
This was to commence by 7-30 itself, so Vijaya and I left our house by 6-20 AM. Today we risked going by bus 41D. The roads in Padi and Korattur were still under water. Even at Ambattur, the bus was diverted and we had to walk a long distance in slushy and muddy roads.
Saroja - Athimber had gone there last night itself. Sugavanam, Mangalam, Jayaraman, Kalyani, Poornima were there. Kumar came later from Avadi. Rajeswari's parents, Ramakrishnan and his wife were the other attendees. Pasupati came in the early morning from Bangalore.
Prakash performed the Homam and this was over by 9 AM. Rajeswari's parents brought seer (Paruppu thengai, new dresses for Rajeswari-Prakash) and Srividya-Pasupati the பேத்தி உருண்டை.
All of us had meals by 12 noon and took rest. Jayaraman and family left by 1230 and the rest of us by 2-45PM.
Thus, the 13th Day rites of KVS Athimber were completed. But, even today, we cant believe that Athimber is not with us.
