SUNDARESAN Subramaniam
01-07-1937
to 03-04-2014
Sundaresan was born at Salem on 01 July 1937. He had his
earlier education at Salem where our parents lived that time. Later, they
shifted to Cuddalore circa
1948. We lived there for nearly 45 years.
Sundaresan had his higher school education at St Joseph’s
High School, Manjakuppam and passed out in 1952. Then he joined Tamilnadu
Polytechnic, Madurai for his LEE (electrical) diploma. He lived there at our
eldest mama ,Sri Chidambaram Iyer’s house for three years who and mami took
good care of Sundaresan.
After obtaining his LEE diploma, he came back to
Thirupapuliyur where our father, Sri GR Subramania Iyer put him in TNEB office
at Villupuram. He served at a couple of places in South Arcot Dist and moved to
Western Tamilnadu to places like Puliampatti,
Singarapettai, Thiruppaththur, Perundurai, Coimbatore, Ooty
(Kunda) and other places. Just after our marriage in 1971,
Vijaya and I went to his Thirupaththur house, stayed with Anna – Manni for a
few days; he took us to Sathanur Dam, Thiruvannamalai Koil etc – most
memorable.
He married Sow. Pattammal at Coimbatore on 08 July 1965. They have two sons Suresh (b: 23
Sep 1966) and Sudhakar (b: 23 June 1969 ) They are also known as Vasudevan and
Natarajan respectively.
Sundaresan retired as Senior Executive Engineer from TNEB in
1995. Earlier his first son Suresh got married to Sow.Vaishali at Kumbakonam on
05 June 1994 and Sudhakar married his maternal uncle’s daughter Sow. Revathi at
Coimbatore on 22 Jan 1996. After this marriage Sundaresan and Manni shifted
permanently ro Dapodi, Pune in 1998 when Sudhakar got a job in Tata Motors,
Pune. They had constructed a house at Kurichi, Coimbatore (which they sold off
later) and another flat at Dapodi. Leaving Tamilnadu / Coimbatore and its
ambience and adjusting to a new language, culture and life was a difficult one
but Sundaresan – Manni did it.
When Sudhakar got an elevation in job and moved to Powaii,
Mumbai (in 200x) Sundaresan-Manni decided to stay at Dapodi itself, because he
didn’t like the over-crowding and the
fast pace of the Mumbai City. They liked Pune better. Suresh, after his retirement
from IAF, came and settled in Mumbai in 19xx , and that was a boon to
Sundaresan – Manni. Later there was an added advantage when both Suresh and
Sudhakar purchased their flats in the
same apartment block, in the 8th and 11th floors. Thus,
the entire family could be together always. In fact, in the year 20xx, the
Upanayanam of the two grandsons of Sundaresan
was performed in this aparment in a grand manner.
When Sundaresan was in Vadamadurai / Kurichi in Coimbatore,
he encouraged me to purchase a plot in Kovaipudur and get a house constructed
there. He did lot of help to me in completing the house, and the Gruhapravesam
in 1991.
A man of helping nature all through his life. he extended full
help to all of us in the family whenever one approached him.
Over the years as he progressed in age, he started
developing minor health constraints, due to which he was a little restricted in
movements but he, along with Manni, used to visit Chennai whenever there was a
function in the family, without fail.
In
spite of the advanced age, he learnt the intricacies of PC operation and he was
in constant touch with the family members, through emails, and then Facebook, Whatsapp etc. One
must appreciate his perseverance and tenacity in learning new things – eg
typing in Tamil. One must also appreciate the efforts of his sons, Suresh and
Sudhakar in making their father a Computer-man !
On
3rd April 2014, Suresh came to Dapodi in the morning to take
Sundaresan to Mumbai for routine treatment. Sundaresan was suffering from minor
ailments since a week. As Sundaresan, Manni, and Suresh were leaving the
building to board the car, suddenly Sundaresan collapsed and the end was
instantaneous. That was at 3:05 PM.
Everyone
was stunned and shocked at this saddest news. One couldn’t just believe. Sudhakar and others rushed from Mumbai.
Sundaresan’s last rites were performed at Dapodi and Aalandhi.
