Every year during 2nd week of January, the Mylapore Festival is held at, where else, MYLAPORE. It is a brainchild of Mylapore Times, a local English weekly published in Chennai.
The festival contains heritage walks, food walks, classical music, traditional food, traditional games like Pallangkuzhi, number of roadside stalls selling all trinkets, Kolam contest etc etc. This year 2016 the festival is from 7th to 10th Jan.
Vijaya and I went today 9th Jan, 4 PM to see and enjoy this. A good one, crowded streets.
First we entered via the North Mada Veethi where the Kolam Contest was on.

First we entered via the North Mada Veethi where the Kolam Contest was on.
Side by on the right, a few saris were displayed by Co-optex. They were not selling the saris but asking thr customers to visit their Co-optex shop at Luz Corner. (Can you spot Vijaya looking on?)
Then we turned to East Mada Veedhi - there was a large bajji kadai (on the roadside) where garam-garam bajjis were being prepared and sold.
From East Street, we turned to Sannidhi Street where some photos were displayed. Trinkets were on display.
This is the famous GIRI Traders near the temple.
We went inside the temple and had a satisfying darshan of Sri Karpagambal and Sri Kapaleeswarar.
Coming out, we neared the "Jannal bajji kadai" - brisk selling of bajjis to the customers.
Then we entered the Pichu Pillai Street, had our bonda - bajji there at the "Mami's Mess" - more crowded than the Jannal kadai. A number of roadside shops selling this and that. Onto East Mada Veedhi again.
East Maada Veedhi
We returned home after spending nearly two hours in Mylapore.
