First, the legend. After the Great Milk Churning, Lord Vishnu told Mahalakshmi to go to Mylapore to Brugu Rishi. So she went and was born to Brugu as his lovely daughter. Bruguputri she was called ; also Mayuravalli. Mayur in Sanskrit is மயில் in Tamil, the connection to Mylapore. Vishnnu came to Mylapore and married her.
There is a very ancient Koil in Mylapore for Sri Adikesava Perumal, along with Mayuravalli Thayar. Over 1500 years old. There is a sannadhi for the third Alwar (AZHWAR) named பேயாழ்வார் here.
Near this temple there is another ancient temple - for Sri Srinivasa Perumal - Alamelu Manga Thayar. When we were in Karpagam Avenue, we used to visit these beautiful temples once in 15 days.
Then after 6-7 years we were blessed to visit yesterday evening on the way to Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan for the drama.
Not a drop of water in Koil குளம். There used to be lot of water in this famous kulam.
As we walk 250 metres, we reach the Bhavan. We entered and sat in the 5th row. NALLI Kuppuswami was the Chief Guest. N. Ravi of the Hindu was a special speaker. Nalli chettiar must be a multimillionaire but how simple he is.
First drama was Meenu என்கிற Meenakshi Ammal. Meenakshi Ammal is the author of the highly-rated famous சமைத்து பார் books. She comes in invisible form, tells her story, and gives very pertinent suggestions for those who want to learn cooking. Every couple of seconds there was roaring applause for her suggestions. What a marvelous, wonderful woman!! We have all the volumes of her சமைத்து பார் books
She teaches how to make paruppu usili. Great performance by that actor. Lots of claps and applause.
The second was Aditi's. Annapoorani. Her பாட்டி is no more (passed away six months ago) thatha is always thinking about paatti, and her impeccable coffee. Annapoorani asks him many sharp questions. Have you ever entered the kitchen, have you ever helped paatti...... Every question thatha blinks, but there is a thunderous applause from the audience.
Since he doesn't know how to boil water even, Annapoorani teaches him a-to-z. Finally she takes over, and gives her thatha a cup of coffee. He sips it, and cries uncontrollably. Annapoorani says one has to be a little knowledgeable in cooking. Aditi was fantastic, fabulously marvelous as Annapoorani. Great performance.
3rd and 4th were also reasonably good.
END of long Narrative.
