SRI MADHAVA PERUMAL KOIL
On 2nd June 2018 we left house at 0700 AM and went to Sri Mundaka Kanni Amman Koil in Mylapore. A powerful Amman and very popular koil also. After worshipping the Amman, we walked further to Sri Madhava Perumal Koil.
This koil is also very ancient. The Thaayaar (Amman) name is AMIRTHAVALLI Thaayaar. She was born to BRIGU Rishi who was doing Tapas at Mylapore for a daughter. Lakshmi Devi was born to the couple as suggested by MahaVishnu. When she attained the suitable age, Vishnu came as Madhavan and married her. Thus goes the legend of this temple. A beautiful koil.
Today (2nd June) is the birthday of our dear ARJUN. We prayed for his wellbeing.
From there we walked to nearby Arundale Street where the famous RAYAR MESS is located. Media was acclaiming that this very ancient eatery is crowded on weekends, but I assumed it was just a hype. When we reached there by 7-45, Oh My God, it was indeed crowded ! A large crowd waiting to be called in for eating breakfast. I couldn't believe my eyes. We were told our time will be after 40 minutes, to wait. We waited.
Rayar Mess is an ancient eatery and popular one. The owner has a fixed menu always - just Idli, Vadai, Pongal, nothing else. Steaming hot, tasty, and cheap. This continues for over 50 years. 4 tables with 4 stools each, total 16 persons only can be accommodated maximum. People are willing to wait ….. and eat.
We also waited for over 45 minutes, and ate Pongal (35.00), Idli (10.00), and Vadai (10.00). There is no fixed quantity for a "plate" - The owner takes out from the steaming hot aduppu and he brings the Idlies / Vadais/ Pongal to the customers' table and asks "Evvalo" ? One may ask for 2 or 3 or 6 or anything Idlies !!! Our total bill came to Rs 105.00. Another exemplary thing is this amount (no bill at all) is collected outside the eatery - you tell what you ate, he notes it down, does mental arithmetic and tells you the amount to pay. EVERYONE is paying honestly.
