Varalakshmi Vratham was celebrated this year (2010) on 20 Aug.
Vijaya started preparations like Idli maavu, kuzhakkattai maavu, cleaning of the vesseles, decorating the mandapam etc on the previous day/night itself. Krithika was also very busy. It was a hectic day's work for both.
On 20th, Vijaya got up by 5 and started work. Krithika was busy in decorating mandapam and the Amman itself. Gayathri also came early and started helping. Rice, Idli, vadai, two types of kuzhakkatai, Panchamrutam etc were prepared. Arun, Sowmya, Sriram also came. Arvind had gone to office.
When everything was ready, I started the poojai at 0945; i chanted the poojai-slokas and Vijaya, Gayathri, Krithika (and Aditi) performed the poojai. We had kept three mukhams for the poojai. It was completed by 1100. All five (Sowm and Aditi incl) tied the sacred SARADU on their right wrists. Afterwards, we had lunch.
Evening, a few guests came to have Amman's darshan. TSG and mami came; so did Sruthi for Saradu. Arun, Gayathri, Sowmya, and sriram had dinner here and left by 10 PM.
Thus, this year's Varalakshmi Vratham went off well.
It was the last festival that we celebrated last year on 31 July 2009 before our Manni passed away on 1 Aug at Delhi.
